As long as you aren’t afraid of a little bit of water, living on a boat can turn out to be quite a bit of fun and a great experience. Some people might think that living on a boat would be a great idea, something they couldn’t experience in any other way but they don’t realize just how scary it can be trying to sleep on a boat that won’t stop rocking back and forth. Other people find living on a boat too isolating, especially when traveling to far away places on by water. But in many cases some people thrive in this kind of atmosphere as they love the freedom from traveling abroad and simply living in the deep waters of the sea.

Even though the space can be a little confining in a boat, even families love living together onboard. There are certain things that are very different than living in a traditional home and would take some getting used to no matter how adventurous you might be. Dishes can’t be left un-washed for too long in case of big waves or disturbances the house boat might experience at any given time. You’ll even need to strap many of your belongings down so they won’t roll around or break in rough waters which can happen even when the boat is docked.

A bathroom you have been so used to won’t be nearly as roomy in a boat and might not even resemble anything more than a motor home bathroom would. You can imagine how limited the space is for 2 people on a houseboat let alone a small family. So it is safe to say that families should feel close and comfortable around each other before choosing to live on a boat. There are some really great things about living on a boat however, and these include saving money on heating, electric bills and water bills to name a few.

As for television and phone access, satellite can help to accomplish this including offering access to the Internet. Make sure you always have communication tools when traveling in your house boat though, as things can get very dangerous when traveling out at sea. It’s also pretty important to make sure you understand the rules of the water before heading out on new and exciting adventures!
